Exploring Creative Development: My Journey as a WebGL Developer
As a passionate Creative Developer at OFF+BRAND studio, I specialize in creating high-performance interactive WebGL experiences. Join me as I share insights about my journey through digital design, innovative projects, and the future of web development.
My Background in Creative Development
I’ve always been intrigued by the technical side of design. While studying digital design at university, I began exploring Three.js and web development to enhance my prototyping skills. After six years of dedicated learning and earning my MA degree, I became a full-time creative developer, collaborating on exciting projects and gaining invaluable experience.
Currently, I also teach visual communications and generative methods to design students in the Czech Republic, blending my professional expertise with academic mentorship.
Projects I’m Proud Of
The Interactive Dictionary of Free Speech
My master’s thesis involved creating an immersive website focused on the freedom of speech. This project combined my interests in computer graphics and socially relevant topics, resulting in recognition such as my first SOTD award on Awwwards.
Lando Norris Collaboration
In my role at OFF+BRAND, I contributed to the WebGL components of a project for Lando Norris. This involved meticulous optimization of 3D elements and ensuring synchronization between WebGL scenes and DOM elements, resulting in a performance that satisfied both developers and users.
Webflow – The 2026 State of the Website
I had the opportunity to explore refractive effects over 3D objects for Webflow’s report. The challenge was to replicate high-fidelity visuals typically achieved in Cinema 4D, which I overcame by creatively faking material properties while enhancing performance.
Aether1 and CleverFarm
In my collaboration with Aether1, I transposed intricate 3D concepts into interactive environments. Similarly, at CleverFarm, I played the dual role of UI/UX designer and 3D artist, successfully illustrating the smart features beneficial to agricultural workers.
Statusovic: A Digital Protest
As a reaction to the political climate during the pandemic in Slovakia, I developed a parody game aimed at critiquing negative social media interactions. The project gained significant media traction and went viral.
Mariupol Digital Memorial
To honor victims of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, I created a digital memorial for the people of Mariupol, which earned recognition in student design competitions, allowing me to support Ukrainian aid efforts.
My Creative Philosophy
Throughout my creative journey, I have undertaken various roles—from graphic designer to UI/UX developer. This diverse experience informs my current projects, allowing me to approach web development with a designer’s empathy and creativity. I believe that continuous learning across disciplines enhances problem-solving in WebGL development, where resources are often limited.
My Toolbox
Recently, I’ve been working with ogl.js for its performance benefits over Three.js. For asset management, I rely on Blender for 3D modeling and Photoshop for texture design, alongside gltf-transform for optimized GLB exports.
Looking Ahead
My future objectives include improving rapid prototyping methods and delving into Geometry Nodes and Houdini for interactive concepts. I aim to skillfully integrate AI into my workflow while rekindling my love for drawing and traditional art.
Final Thoughts
In a rapidly evolving tech landscape, understanding the underlying principles of my tools fuels my creativity. As Stephen Hawking wisely said, “If you know how something works, you can control it.” I’m grateful to platforms like Codrops for providing continuous inspiration and knowledge throughout my career.
In conclusion, the intersection of creativity and technology is where I thrive, and I look forward to what lies ahead in this exciting field.
