YouTube Introduces New Features for a Better Viewing Experience

YouTube has recently announced updates aimed at improving user experience on its platform. Viewers can now dismiss popups and video suggestions at the end of videos, offering a more focused content-watching experience.

Dismissable End Screen Popups

YouTube has introduced a “Hide” button that allows users to dismiss the end screen popups that typically appear at the conclusion of videos. This feature is a response to community feedback indicating that viewers wanted to concentrate on the content without distractions.

With this new option, viewers can simply click on the Hide button located in the top right corner of the video player. However, it’s important to note that this setting is only applicable to the current video, so you will need to click Hide for each new video you watch.

Changes to Desktop Interface

In addition to the Hide button, YouTube is also updating its desktop interface. The platform will no longer display a “Subscribe” button when you hover over a video’s watermark, an element deemed redundant given the presence of a dedicated Subscribe button below each video.

Impact on Creators

YouTube asserts that these changes won’t hinder creators from utilizing end screens or watermarks if they choose to. The company states that allowing users to hide end screens has led to a minimal decrease in views—less than 1.5 percent. Similarly, the removal of the hover-to-subscribe function does not significantly impact channel subscriptions, with it contributing to less than 0.05 percent of all subscriptions.

Conclusion

YouTube’s recent updates provide viewers with more control over their viewing experience by allowing them to dismiss distracting popups. These changes, while minor, signify YouTube’s commitment to addressing user feedback and enhancing content consumption.
